Two Canadian rivals will be clashing against one another on Sunday in the MLS when Montreal Impact will play host to Toronto FC. Oddly enough, only one of these two teams is chasing a playoff spot, and that is Montreal Impact. Toronto FC failed to live up to the expectations this season, as they were torn apart by duties in multiple competitions. Montreal Impact is dying for a win here, while Toronto FC will be looking to play spoiler.

Montreal Impact (13-15-4) played a really balanced match at home against Columbus Crew on October 6th, where they won by an easy 0-3. They were slightly better in the first half and took the lead at the 32nd minute when Taider scored from the penalty spot. Silva doubled Montreal’s lead at the 44th minute, while Piatti scored the third and final goal at the 59th minute for the final 0-3. They really needed to bounce back to winning ways after a massive 0-5 loss on the road against DC United. They have been in great shape lately, losing just that one of their last five (3-1-1). Montreal Impact is still sitting at the 7th spot of the Eastern Conference with 43 points, four behind DC United. With two more matches to go, Montreal, DC United and Columbus are fighting for two playoff spots. Montreal has been pretty solid at home so far (10-4-2), where they are undefeated in their last five (3-0-2).
On the other hand, Toronto FC (9-17-6) is one of the few teams that won the MLS Cup one year and failed to make the playoffs in the next. This season they were caught up in multiple competitions, as they made deep runs in both the CONCACAF Champions League and in the Canadian Championship. The multiple matches, combined with injuries to key players and an overall shallow roster resulted in a pretty bad campaign in the MLS. They look like they have given up lately, as they have lost four of their last five matches in all competitions. They are now sitting at the 9th spot of the Eastern Conference with 33 points, ten behind their rivals and 14 behind the playoff spots. Toronto FC has been tragic on the road this season (2-10-4), where they failed to score in each of their last three.
