Two teams that have played a lot of matches the past few days are clashing, when Dortmund host Freiburg on Thursday, September 22nd. This will be the 3rd match in a week for Freiburg, while on the other hand, it will be the 5th match in 12 days for Dortmund.
Dortmund’s (3-1-0) reaction was very strong since they lost to Red Bull Leipzig with 0-1. Since then, they have recorded 3 victories in a week, against Legia Warsaw for the Champions League and Darmstadt and Wolfsburg for the Bundesliga. What is amazing is the fact that Dortmund have scored a whopping 17 goals in those 3 matches, while they have conceded just 1. Coach Tuchel has made an excellent management to his squad in order to avoid fatigue accumulation. Dortmund have an excellent history against Freiburg, as they have 7 consecutive wins since 2007, while 5 of those were with a deficit of more than two goals.
On the other hand, Freiburg (2-2-0) are set to play their 3rd match in a week, and their roster is not that deep, so it should affect their performance. Despite doing well at home where they have won both matches so far, Freiburg have yet to capture a point on the road, as they have also lost both away matches. In their most recent match they took a valuable 0-1 win against Hamburg, where they were very lucky, as their opponents missed two very important scoring chances. Freiburg have scored 13 out of their last 22 goals from set pieces, as Grifo is outstanding in his foul and corner kicks.
