Athletic Bilbao (4-6-5) are coming into this match after a very weird match against Levante on the road, where they eventually won by 2-1. They took the lead early in the 5th minute, when Aduriz scored from the penalty spot. However, Levante pulled even at the 73rd minute, when Laporte scored an own goal for Athletic Bilbao. It wasn’t long until Levante scored an own goal themselves, essentially handing the win over to their opponents. That was their second consecutive win in all competitions, something that hadn’t happened since early September for them. Athletic Bilbao are now sitting at the 14th spot of the La Liga with 17 points, having moved five points ahead of the relegation zone. They have not been as strong at home as in recent years (2-2-3), where they ahve scored just five goals, against five conceded.
On the other hand we have Real Sociedad (5-6-4) should be feeling really upset about the outcome of their previous match against Malaga at home. They actually created the majority of scoring chances in that match, but they saw their opponents score twice after penalty kicks, suffering a 2-0 loss at home. That was their fourth consecutive loss in all competitions, proving yet again that they are a streaky side. They are now sitting at the 10th spot of the La Liga with 19 points so far, having scored 28 goals against 28 conceded. Real Sociedad have been hit or miss on the road so far in the season (3-3-1), where they have only failed to score once in eleven matches in all competitions so far.
