Next up we have a very interesting match from the German Bundesliga, between hosts Red Bull Leipzig and Dortmund on Saturday, September 10th. Newly promoted Red Bull Leipzig were stunning at the premiere but only managed to take one point, while Dortmund took a valuable win against Mainz at home but showed some defensive concerns.
Leipzig was a team that were at the 5th tiered league in Germany just a few years ago, however they have risen to power since Red Bull decided to fund them in 2009. Since then they have managed to climb up to the top, and they have made their debut against Hoffenheim, in what was the most exciting match of the premiere. It all started at the second half, when hosts Hoffenheim took the lead at the 55th minute, but Red Bull Leipzig were quick in their response, when they equalized 3 minutes later. Hoffenheim scored once again what appeared to be the winning goal at the 83rd minute, but little did they know that their opponents whould shock them at the 90th minute, when Sabitzer would equalize once again for the final 2-2.
On the other hand, Dortmund started their domestic duties with a 1-2 win at home against Mainz. Aubameyang picked up where he left off last season (25 goals), as he scored twice for his team. Their opponents created numerous chances but they could only score a consolation goal at the 92nd minute. Dortmund need to shape up on the defensive end, as they allowed a ton of chances to a team that isn’t even in the best 5 of the league. Their defensive problems lie in the transfer of Mats Hummels to Bayern Munich, as he was the team’s, if not the nation’s, best defender. However, Dortmund were reinforced significantly in the offensive end, and they will surely want to challenge Bayern Munich for the top spot this season.
