The New York Red Bulls (11-5-2) are coming off a pretty solid win at home against Sporting Kansas City last week. But it didn’t come very easy, as the Red Bulls somewhat struggled. They scored an early goal in that match, but their opponents had already overturned the lead in their favor by the start of the second half. Even so, the Red Bulls scored two goals in an eight-minute span and grabbed a well-deserved win. They have been in really good form lately, having lost just twice in over two months (5-2-1). They are now sitting at the 3rd spot of the Eastern Conference with 35 points. They are six points behind Conference leaders Atlanta who have played three more matches. Moreover, the Red Bulls have been excellent at home so far (7-1-1), having won each of their last four.
On the other hand, New England Revolution (7-6-7) had high hopes for a deep run in the US Open Cup this season, but they evaporated on Wednesday. They were up against Minnesota United on the road and suffered a really frustrating 1-2 loss that left them eliminated. New England has been in abysmal form lately, as they have won just one of their last seven matches in all competitions (1-3-3). They are currently sitting at the 5th spot of the Eastern Conference with 28 points, seven behind the Red Bulls. They have not been very good on the road (1-3-4), having conceded at least twice in six of their last seven. However, they have been consistent scorers on the way, having only failed to score once.
