Two teams that made strong starts in the 2018 MLS season are now clashing against one another this week when New York City FC will play host to L.A. Galaxy. New York City FC recorded a nice road win against Sporting Kansas City, but their work was far from easy. L.A. Galaxy didn’t have it easy either, as they struggled to hold on to their lead against the Portland Timbers.

Sporting Kansas City hosted New York City FC (1-0-0) in the premiere of the 2018 season, and it was not an easy job at all. The two teams were engaged in a balanced first half, where New York City FC had the luck to take the lead at the 32nd minute with Morrison. The home team was much stronger in the second half, but it was New York City FC who doubled their lead at the 53rd minute. No matter how hard the home team tried, they were just unable to break past New York City FC’s defense. However, they were left with ten men at the 88th minute, when Chanot faced a straight red card. The team will look to replicate last season’s success, where they finished at the 2nd spot of the Eastern Conference. They will be coming into this match with just a single absence, as Berget has been ruled out.

On the other hand, we have the L.A. Galaxy (1-0-0), who also won in their first match of the season when they overcame the Portland Timbers by 1-2 at home. The two teams were equal in the first half, where they both had their fair share of scoring chances. However, it was the Galaxy who took the lead at the 32nd minute with the newly-signed Ola Kamara. As is that wasn’t enough, Romain Alessandrini doubled the lead for the Galaxy just two minutes later. However, the second half was the exact opposite, as the Galaxy failed to record a single shot on target, while their opponents were piling on the pressure. The Timbers eventually scored their first goal of the season at the 66th minute with Blanco and were close to pulling even. However, the Galaxy defended great in the final minutes of the match and made a promising start in the new season.
