The Rainbow Warriors of Hawaii will travel to the other end of America to face off with the University of Massachusetts Minutemen at Warren McGuirk Alumni Stadium in Amherst, Massachusetts. The contest is set to kick off the festivities for the opening of the college football season on Saturday, August 26th, 2017 at 6:00 PM ET.
Hawaii Rainbow Warriors at Massachusetts Minutemen Overview
The Rainbow Warriors finished the 2016-17 season in good stride, winning their last three contests to conclude their campaign and finish 7-7. The Warriors capped off their efforts with style when they won a virtual home-game in the Hawaiian Tel Federal Credit Union Field at Aloha Stadium on Christmas Eve against Middle Tennessee State. The Warriors were dominant and defeated MTSU by a score of 52-35 despite being spotted 7.5 points at the close. The Rainbow Warriors will look to carry the high over with them to the 2017 season and start off strong against a Massachusetts Minutemen team that finished 2-10 in 2016. 2017 could be a big year for the Minutemen as they will be operating as an Independent football team not affiliated with any conference. UMass will look to capitalize on further controlling their own destiny, but it is without question this showdown will likely set the tempo for Amherst for the remainder of the season.
The two teams met on November 27th, 2016 where the contest resulted in over 80 points proliferated between both sides. UMass entered the meeting as a nine-point road pooch when the markets closed before kick-off. The final resulted in a 46-40 Hawaii victory. Despite the clash being a bit of an offensive barnburner, the market is reluctant to believe such fireworks will be set off again for the second edition of this series.
