The Netherlands failed to reach the World Cup this summer, and they are still struggling to get their foot at the door of a major competition. They didn’t make the best of starts in the UEFA Nations League either, as they fell by 0-1 on the road against France in their first match. They were terrible in the first half of that match, on both ends of the pitch. Their offense failed to create chances, and they didn’t get a single shot on the opposing target. They conceded at the first half but managed to pull even at the 67th minute. They were slightly improved overall in the second half but conceded another goal to lose by 1-2 eventually. They are in a horrible group, and they are clearly the weakest one of the three. In their match, prior to the loss to Germany, they defeated Peru by 1-2 at home in an international friendly.
On the other hand, Germany was awful in the World Cup this summer and suffered a shocking elimination at the group stage. They barely defeated Sweden in the second match, but somehow lost to minnows South Korea in their final game at the group stage and were left out of the knock out round. Not much has changed since then, with coach Low still remaining at the helm. He did call-up some younger players but kept most of his core intact. Germany played host to France in the first match and was actually better throughout the 90 minutes. But neither team scored a goal, so they split the points in a draw. After that, Germany blew off some steam in a 1-2 home win against Peru in a friendly match.
