Minnesota United have been slightly improved this season and was actively chasing the playoffs until last week. However, a tough loss in Philadelphia destroyed whatever playoff chances they had and are now left with nothing to chase. They will now return home for their next match, where they will play host to the Colorado Rapids. Colorado is one of the teams that have given up this season and are coming into this match after seven successive losses.
Minnesota United (11-17-3) met a terrible 1-5 loss on the road against Philadelphia Union last week. It’s not the extent of the loss that hurt them, but the fact that it destroyed their playoff hopes. Their opponents made an excellent start in the first half and scored three early goals. They were already leading by four by the end of the first half, which was kind of an anomaly, as Minnesota United also had their fair share of scoring chances. Minnesota United is now sitting at the 9th spot of the Western Conference with 36 points, having scored 46 goals so far, against 63 conceded. Minnesota United have been quite competitive at home this season (10-4-1), where they have won five of their last six. But they have failed to keep a clean sheet in their previous eight.
The Colorado Rapids (6-19-6) met another tough loss last week when they hosted LAFC. They were terrible on both ends of the pitch once again, as they only recorded a single shot on target, and had conceded all three goals by the 48th minute for the final 3-0. The Rapids are now on a seven-match losing streak, scoring just once in that span. They are still stuck at the 11th spot of the Western Conference with only 24 points after 31 matches. Colorado has one of the worst away records in the MLS (1-11-3). They have scored just 10 goals so far, and have conceded 31. They usually concede at least twice on the road and will have a tough time against Minnesota United.
