Another very exciting match this weekend comes from the German Bundesliga, and it’s the Ruhr Derby, or the River Derby between hosts Schalke and visitors Dortmund on Saturday. The two teams gave us one of the most spectacular matches last season, a tremendous 4-4 draw in Dortmund. This season both sides have been doing solidly, with Dortmund being much better though as they are leading the Bundesliga. Both teams are also playing in the Champions League, and they have both qualified to the next round. We all hope that this match will be equally exciting as that 4-4 last season.

Schalke (4-7-2) played a really balanced match on the road against Hoffenheim last week, where the two teams split the points in a 1-1 draw. Both sides scored their goals through penalty kicks, and the draw was the fairest result for both teams. In their previous match they lost by a harsh 1-3 on the road against Porto in the Champions League, but despite the loss, they still grabbed a ticket to the next round of the competition. But Schalke has not been in very good shape lately, having won just one of their last four matches in all competitions (1-2-1). They are now sitting at the 12th spot of the league table with 14 points, just three ahead of the relegation zone. They have been hit or miss at home so far in the league (3-3-0), where they also have a win and a draw for the Champions League. Schalke will miss Embolo on this one, while Riether, Skrzybski, Teuchert, and Uth are all considered as questionable to participate.

On the other hand, Dortmund (10-0-3) did not have to spend a lot of resources in their previous match but did record a professional win over Freiburg. It wasn’t a very easy match for them though, as they were a little bit more relaxed than they should. They did take the lead when Reus converted a penalty kick at the 40th minute, and eventually sealed the deal with another goal at the stoppage time for the final 0-2. Prior to that, they played for a goalless draw on the road against Club Brugge for the Champions League that gave them enough points to seal a ticket to the next round of the competitions. As far as the Bundesliga is concerned, Dortmund is still sitting at the top of the league table with 33 points, seven ahead of Borussia Gladbach. Moreover, Dortmund is the only team not to have lost on the road so far in the league (4-0-2). They will be missing Wolf on this one, while Zagadou and Schmelzer are questionable to participate.
