Barcelona has taken advantage of Real Madrid’s struggles so far in the season and has been sitting at the top for quite some time now. They will need to keep on their strong performances in order to remain there. They will not have a very easy job on Sunday when they will be hosted by a really tough Getafe side who have only lost four matches so far.
Getafe (6-4-7) should be feeling grateful about the outcome of their last match before the winter break when they split the points in a 1-1 draw against Girona on the road. They were not very good in the first half, but the two teams entered the halftime break tied at 0-0. It was Getafe who took the lead at the 61st minute, but their opponents pulled even at the 85th minute for the final 1-1. They entered the break undefeated in six straight matches (3-0-2) and had lost just once in the past three months (6-1-4). Getafe is now sitting at the 7th spot of the league table with 25 points, featuring the 2nd best defense in league with just 13 conceded. They are one point behind Betis and the top-six spots that grant entrance to the European competitions next season. Getafe has not been anything special at home so far (4-3-1) where they have won four of their last five.
Barcelona (11-2-4) did not have to spend any unnecessary strengths in their home match against Celta before the break. They made a really good start in the game and took the lead at the 10th minute with Dembele, while Messi doubled that at the end of the first half for the final 0-2. Barcelona is now undefeated in their last eight matches through all competitions (6-0-2), also keeping four clean sheets in the process. They are still sitting at the top of the La Liga with 37 points, three ahead of Atletico Madrid. They have by far the best offense in league with 48 goals and the 5th best defense with 19 conceded. Barca also has the best away record in the league (5-1-2) with 18 goals so far, against 7 conceded. They also have three wins and a draw in other competitions and have scored in all their away matches.
