Turning to this Saturday’s betting slate at Bookmaker in the NHL, the following three head-to-head division matchups are my ‘best bet’ picks for the day.
This Saturday’s schedule in the NHL features some great matchups including three head-to-head division showdowns that make up my ‘best bet’ picks for the day based on betting odds at Bookmaker.
New Jersey Devils at Philadelphia Flyers (1 p.m)
The Devils moved to within four points of Washington for the lead in the Metro Division following Thursday night’s 4-3 overtime victory against the Capitals as slight -102 home underdogs. They are now 24-12-8 on the year with 56 points. New Jersey is 11-6-5 on the road this season and the total has gone OVER in three of its last five road games.
Philadelphia (50 points) won the front end of this home-and-home series with a 5-3 victory against the Devils last Saturday as a +115 road underdog. The Flyers went on to lose to the New York Rangers 5-1 on the road as +101 underdogs before Thursday’s 3-2 win at home against Toronto as slight -102 underdogs. They have now won six of their last eight games with the total going OVER in six of those games.
New Jersey has the slight 4-2 edge in the last six meetings, but look for the Flyers to pull off the sweep in this home-and-home behind a hot offensive attack that has scored an average of 3.5 goals over the their last eight games.
Toronto Maple Leafs at Ottawa Senators (7 p.m.)
Toronto’s loss to Philly in overtime on Thursday night was its fourth in a row with three of those games tied at regulation. The Maple Leafs are now 25-17-5 and 10 points off the pace in the Atlantic Division. They have lost seven of their last nine road games and the total has gone OVER in four of their last six games on the road.
The Senators beat Toronto 4-3 in overtime o Jan. 10 as heavy +194 road underdogs sandwiched around losses at home to Chicago and St. Louis. They closed as +129 underdogs at home in Thursday’s 4-1 loss to the Blues coming off a week-long bye. Ottawa is 15-19-9 overall with a 6-10-4 record on its home ice. The total has gone OVER in three of its last four home games.
Ottawa has now won the last four meetings in this Atlantic Division clash with the total going OVER in the last three games. However, I would have to go with the Maple Leafs as probable road favorites to avenge that latest loss in another high scoring game.

Vancouver Canucks at Edmonton Oilers (10 p.m.)
The Canucks have strung together back-to-back victories against Columbus and Minnesota as part of their current seven-game road trip. They started things off with a trio of losses to Toronto, Montreal and Washington and the total has stayed UNDER in three of the five games. Vancouver is 11-9-3 on the road this season as part of an overall record of 20-23-3.
Edmonton has also come out on top in its last two games following last Saturday’s stunning 3-2 victory against Vegas as a heavy +165 road underdog. This closed out the Oilers’ five game road trip on a winning note after losing the first three games. They come into this game well rested following the week off for the start of a five-game home stand at 9-12-1 in their first 22 home games this season.
Vancouver drew first blood in the season series with a 3-2 victory in early October as a +137 home underdog, but I like Edmonton’s chances to avenge that loss on Saturday to get a fresh start out of the gate for this extended stay at home.
