Anaheim quickly found itself in a 0-2 hole in this best-of-seven affair after dropping the first two games on its home ice as solid favorites by identical 3-2 losses. The total ended as a PUSH in both contests. A change in venue for Tuesday’s Game 3 sparked a solid response to an almost dire situation with a 3-0 shutout as slight -104 road underdogs. The Ducks had fairly good success on the road in the regular season with a record of 21-15-5.
The key to Tuesday’s win was a smothering defense bolstered by the play of Frederik Anderson in goal. He turned away all 27 shots he faced after John Gibson got the start in the first two games of this series. The Ducks were ranked first in the NHL in goals-allowed (2.3) in the regular season and they had the best kill rate (87.2) against the power play. On the other end of the ice, right winger Chris Stewart tallied a goal and an assist in Tuesday’s win.
