Washington Redskins (0-3 SU, 1-2 ATS) vs. New York Giants (1-2, 1-2)
The Giants just received a sudden infusion of hope while the Redskins are mired in the doldrums, heading into their NFC East rivalry battle Sunday afternoon in New Jersey. Early betting sentiment leans toward New York here, but is this game a set-up for a sucker bet? And which way are we leaning for our free NFL pick?
NFL Betting Odds
Week 4’s NFL betting odds opened New York at -1.5 over Washington, with an over/under of right around 46. Early betting action then bumped the Giants to -3 and rolled the total to 49.
Redskins vs. Giants Set-Up
Washington is off to a miserable 0-3 start to this season, after losing at home to Chicago Monday night 31-15. The Redskins fell down early 7-0 on a Case Keenum pick-six, trailed 28-0 before hitting the board with a field goal just before halftime, got within 28-15 early in the fourth but had nothing more to offer from there.
On the night Washington out-gained the Bears 356-298 but most of its yardage came while chasing from way behind. The Redskins also missed a field goal when the game was still close and lost the turnover battle 5-1.
Washington opened this season by blowing a 17-0 lead and losing at Philadelphia 32-27, then fell at home to Dallas 31-21 in a game that wasn’t as close as that score might indicate.
New York, meanwhile, is 1-2, following a crazy 32-31 victory at Tampa Bay last Sunday. The Giants, in rookie quarterback Daniel Jones’ first career start, trailed the Buccaneers 28-10 at the half but battled back to take their first lead of the game with just over a minute to go. They then survived a missed Tampa field-goal attempt at the buzzer for the win.
On the day New York got out-gained by the Bucs 499-384, out-rushed 144-72 and lost time of possession by a 33/27 split. So the G-Men should consider themselves lucky to win that game.
Unfortunately, New York took a huge hit last week when running back Saquon Barkley suffered an ankle injury. He’s expected to miss the next 4-6 games.
The Giants opened this season with a 35-17 loss to the Cowboys, then lost to Buffalo 28-14. New York has also been out-gained each of its first three games.
