Odds To Win the NFC Championship

Most sports bettors think of college basketball when the calendar turns the page to March, but this is also a great time of year to try and cash in on the current value in the betting odds for some NFL futures. With free agency and the NFL Draft still yet to come, most of the current betting odds at Sportsbook.ag for any NFL futures bet are skewed heavily towards last season’s results. This can add some tremendous value to a few teams that might be just one or two players away from making a championship run.

When it comes to the NFL futures odds to win the NFC title next season, the Dallas Cowboys are at the top of the list at +500. It is easy to see why after a 13-3 regular-season run in 2016 earned Dallas the top seed in the conference heading into last season’s playoffs.

You have to keep in mind that the season before Dallas won just four games and while you cannot discount the addition of rookie Pro Bowlers Dak Prescott at quarterback and Ezekiel Elliott at running back as the main reasons for this year’s success, the Cowboys are not going to sneak up on anyone in 2017. There is such a thing as raising the bar too high too soon and that could easily be the case with Dallas heading into next season.

Next on the list is the Atlanta Falcons and the Seattle Seahawks at +600 odds to win the NFC. Both of these teams are also highly overvalued in my book. It is hard enough to bounce back from any Super Bowl loss the next season, let alone the way that Atlanta let a NFL title slip through its hands. Much in the same way that Carolina struggled last season in the wake of a blowout loss to Denver in Super Bowl 50, I have little faith in the Falcons’ ability to play at such a high level in 2017.

As for the Seahawks, the word overrated has to creep into your minds. This was a great team a few years back when it went to two-straight Super Bowls, winning one. However, the window of opportunity continues to close in Seattle with aging veterans and a quarterback that could be heading in the wrong direction after achieving so much early in his career.

That leaves Green Bay at +650 as the fourth-favorite to win the conference next season. While I would never want to bet against a future ‘Hall of Fame” quarterback like Aaron Rodgers, I am beginning to think that the Packers may be going the same route as Seattle. Both are perennial playoff teams, but it is getting harder and harder to consider them as perennial Super Bowl contenders. I like Green Bay’s chances the best out of this top four list, but I am going deeper down the list in search of the best value on the board.

A trio of teams come in at +1200 betting odds to win the NFC title next season including the New York Giants, Carolina and Minnesota. The Panthers are an interesting play after taking that big step backwards in 2016. The pressure will be dialed up on Cam Newton to return to the form that led to him being named league MVP during that Super Bowl run. If he can play the way he did in 2015 and the Panthers can find a way to revitalize their running game, Carolina’s defense is still good enough to take this team back to a Super Bowl.

If you are looking to take a flyer on a team further down the list, you have Arizona at +1500 followed by Tampa Bay at +2000. Philadelphia and Washington are next at +2500 and both New Orleans and Detroit are listed at +3500 odds to win. Bringing up the rear in the NFC futures are Chicago (+6000), Los Angeles (+7500) and San Francisco (+15000).
