As the NFL offseason wears on, the only sports betting action on the board right now at BetOnline is a number of futures odds set for the upcoming 2017 regular season and the march to Super Bowl LII. While there are 16 teams in the NFC shooting for a spot in that title game next February, there is only one that will be able to call themselves NFC Champions.
NFC Championship 2017 Futures Odds Summer Edition
The Atlanta Falcons made a run to the top of the NFC in 2016 after Carolina won the conference the season before. Seattle was the top team in the conference for two years in a row and going back to 2010, San Francisco, New York and Green Bay also took their turn at the top of this list. With the futures odds posted to win the NFC this time around, it is time to find the best value in the numbers.

NFC Top Favorite
The Dallas Cowboys had the best record in the NFC last season at 13-3 and the Green Bay Packers won their fifth NFC North Division title in the past six seasons. Both of these teams are at the top of the list to win the NFC title this season at +450 betting odds.
While the Cowboys were the new kids on the block in last year’s playoffs after winning just four games in 2015, the superb play of rookies’ Dak Prescott at quarterback and running back Ezekiel Elliott painted a very bright future in Big D. The problem with Dallas taking that next big step back to a Super Bowl out of the NFC in 2017 could easily be one of too much, too soon. The pressure will be dialed up sky high on both of these young superstars as well as the rest of this team and with a projected win total of 9.5 games even the Oddsmakers are expecting the Cowboys to take a step backwards this season.
Green Bay has been a perennial Super Bowl contender for the past decade or so with Mike McCarthy at the helm as head coach. Brett Favre got this run going at quarterback and for the past nine seasons Aaron Rodgers has been able to establish himself as a future ‘Hall of Famer’. The problem with the Packers over the past few seasons has been their inability to get past the conference title game and back to their first Super Bowl since 2010 when they won it all. While there is some value in their odds to get it done this year, it could easily be the same old story given the high level of parity in this conference.
NFC Top Contenders
A close second to the top two favorites to win the NFC this season would be the Seattle Seahawks at +500 betting odds. The Seahawks have made it into the playoffs the past five seasons including a run to a world title in 2012. They should be right in the mix again this
season as heavy -275 favorites to win the NFC West for fourth time in the past five years, but you still have to question if this team’s best years are rapidly fading in the rear view mirror. Seattle tends to get a bit too much credit for its past performances and the wear and tear on the players that led the way in those glory days might be taking its toll.
You still have to mention Atlanta as a legitimate contender given its +650 betting odds to win the NFC again this year, but that devastating loss in Super Bowl LI after blowing a huge lead to New England is just too hard to ignore. Look what happened to Carolina last season after going 15-1 in 2015 only to get blown out of the water against Denver in Super Bowl 50.
The New York Giants are always an interesting team to watch and their odds to win the conference this season are set at +800. Eli Manning has already led this team to two Super Bowl titles during his tenure at quarterback and with last year’s run to the playoffs at 11-5 makes them a very attractive play in 2017.
NFC Top Longshot
Given the parity in the NFC, there is some solid value in a number of teams with longer odds. The one team that has caught my eye in light of some big offseason moves is the Philadelphia Eagles at +2500 betting odds. Quarterback Carson Wentz could be poised for a big year in his sophomore season with the addition of wide receivers’ Alshon Jeffry and Torrey Smith. The Eagles’ running game also received a major upgrade with LeGarrette Blount joining the backfield. Philly’s defense will be the deciding factor in just how far this team goes this year.
