Los Angeles had their 4-game winning streak snapped with a TO-filled 30-13 loss to Kansas City last Sunday. New York faded late in a 31-19 loss at New Orleans.
LA QB Philip Rivers has had 2 poor outings against the Chiefs but has been pretty good vs. the rest of the league. Six of his 10 interceptions on the year have come against KC so he should bounce back this week against a defense that allows 230 ypg through the air. WR Keenan Allen had been on a very hot streak before being contained last week and I expect a big game from him this Sunday. Rivers has been sacked 17 times in 2017 while the Jets have mustered only 26. No player has more than 5. RB Melvin Gordon figures to be a big part of the offense this week and won’t be losing carries to RB Austin Ekeler (IR). He is 69 yards short of a 1,000 rushing yards for the season and should do well against a defense whose run stopping has fallen off of late. Los Angeles usually does a decent job of mixing the pass and the run and they should be successful this week if they can maintain that balance.

Jets QB Bryce Petty’s first start of the year went predictably last Sunday. He completed fewer than 50% of his passes and tossed 2 interceptions. At this stage of his career, he just hasn’t shown that he can get the job done out on the field. WRs Robby Anderson and Jermaine Kearse were having solid years with QB Josh McCown (IR) under center but they will find it harder to produce with Petty. The Chargers’ pass defense has held opponent to only 200 ypg and they have 38 sacks so Petty should be in for a long day. New York has allowed 40 sacks on the season. One advantage New York may have is in the running game. LA’s run defense had been allowing 125 ypg before last week (174 by KC) and the Jets want to run the ball to protect Petty. NY’s three RBs all average 4.0 ypc or less as the o-line doesn’t consistently open holes for them. Look for the Chargers to overplay the run as Petty’s arm isn’t going to scare anyone.
