Green Bay at Pittsburgh Game Overview
The Packers are slowing watching their season slip away with just one win in their last five games both straight-up and against the spread. The total stayed UNDER 38 points in last Sunday’s dismal 23-0 loss to Baltimore as a 2.5-point home underdog and it has stayed UNDER in three of Green Bay’s last five games. The Packers are now 2-4 ATS when closing as underdogs.
Nobody ever questioned the value of Aaron Rodgers to his team’s fortunes, but things are starting to breakdown in every phase of the game. Under Brett Hundley at quarterback, the Packers’ offense has fallen to 23rd in the league in yards gained and 21st in scoring with an average of 20.4 points per game. Green Bay’s defense is now 18th in both yards (340.1) and points (23.0) allowed. Given the steady downward spiral this team has been on, it is hard to see how the Packers can turns things around to salvage their season.
Pittsburgh is headed in the opposite direction over in the AFC with a SU five-game winning streak while going 4-1 ATS. The Steelers hammered Tennessee 40-17 on Nov. 16 as seven-point home favorites so they will be well-rested for Sunday night’s game. The total went OVER 44.5 points in that contest after it has stayed UNDER in eight of their first nine games. Pittsburgh is 3-1 ATS in four previous home games this year.
Ben Roethlisberger is playing his best football of the season and against Tennessee he ended the night with four touchdown throws including three to his favorite target in the passing game, Antonio Brown. Le’Veon Bell has rushed for 886 yards and five touchdowns on an offense that is 11th in the league in total yards gained. Pittsburgh’s defense remains the team’s biggest strength with a points-allowed average of 16.5 that is ranked second in the NFL.
