The NFC North Division title will be up for grabs this Sunday night when the 9-6 Green Bay Packers invade Ford Field to square off against the 9-6 Detroit Lions. The kickoff is set for 8:30 p.m. (ET) in this winner-take-all battle and the game will be broadcast nationally on NBC.
Green Bay at Detroit Game Overview
Green Bay is riding a straight-up five-game winning streak and it has gone 4-1 against the spread during this run. Last Saturday’s 38-24 victory against Minnesota as a 6.5-point home favorite went OVER the 44.5-point closing line and it has gone OVER in seven of its last nine games. The Packers have gone 4-6-1 ATS this season when closing as favorites.
Aaron Rodgers can take quite a bit of credit for the Packers’ success during his tenure as Green Bay’s starting quarterback and if his team goes on to win this game and make any kind of run in the playoffs you can almost guarantee it will be because of his continued high level of play. Rodgers completed 28-of-38 attempts for 347 yards and four touchdowns in last week’s win against the Vikings to almost single-handedly get his team that win.
The Lions were in the driver seat in the division race following an early December victory against Chicago that was part of a SU five-game winning streak, but back-to-back losses (SU and ATS) to the New York Giants and Dallas Cowboys on the road have evaporated that edge. The total went OVER 46.5 points in Monday night’s 42-21 loss to the Cowboys as 6.5-point underdogs after staying UNDER in their previous eight games.
One of the big reasons that Detroit is still in the hunt for a spot in the postseason has been the play of its veteran quarterback Matthew Stafford. However, an earlier injury to a finger on his throwing hand has obviously impacted his game. He completed 26 of his 46 passing attempts for 260 yards in Monday’s loss, but he also threw a costly interception that led to a Dallas score. It will be tough for the Lions to rely on a rushing attack that is ranked 30th in the league.
