Dallas revived their playoff hopes with a big 38-14 beatdown of Washington last Thursday. New York lost again last week, 24-17 at Oakland and fired HC Ben McAdoo and GM Gerry Reese the next day. The Cowboys won the Week 1 matchup 19-3.
The Cowboys rediscovered their running game against the Redskins, gaining 182 yards on 42 attempts, led by RB Alfred Morris (27-127-1). Now they face the 32nd-ranked run defense in the NFL (130.7) so it’s no secret what the game plan will be. Interim Giants HC Steve Spagnuolo ran some of the great NY defenses of the past decade but just doesn’t have a lot to work with right now. Injuries and ineffectiveness have hampered the unit and they will have a lot of trouble dealing with this o-line (like they did in the opener). QB Dak Prescott threw for only 102 yards last week but also tossed 2 TD passes and didn’t commit a TO. WR Dez Bryant showed some life against the Skins and NY is without their top CB Janoris Jenkins (IR). NY has only 21 sacks on the year so Prescott should have time to throw.

Eli Manning is expected to be the starting QB this week after his consecutive games streak was stopped at 210 last week (for reasons still unknown). While he hasn’t made many big plays this season, he is hardly the main reason for the offense’s continued weak performance (fewer than 24 points scored in 18-straight games). He hasn’t had a healthy receiver other than rookie TE Evan Engram, the o-line is a shambles and the running game has been MIA most of the year. WR Sterling Shepard returned last week and caught 3 passes for 56 yards. The Cowboys have 32 sacks as a team, led by NFL leader DE DeMarcus Lawrence’s 13.5. Expect him and his d-line mates to harass Manning into quick throws. RB Orleans Darkwa has been the starter over the past few months but rookie RB Wayne Gallman has been eating into his carries. Dallas has played decent run defense in 2017 and they should be able to handle the run with their front seven.
