Ahead of the start of a new NFL regular season, all 32 teams are tied in the standings. That will quickly change with half the teams sitting at 1-0 and the other half at 0-1 barring any ties following Week 1’s results.
The Oddsmakers at BetOnline Sportsbook have betting odds on the board for a handful of props concerning just how many games any team will win or loose over the course of the entire 16-game regular season. You can also bet on a perfect 16-0 record or a winless run through the schedule.
OVER/UNDER: Most Wins and Losses
Most Wins- 13.5
The betting odds for any team winning more than 13.5 games have been set at +100 for the OVER with -130 odds favoring the UNDER.
The team with the highest projected win this season is the New England Patriots at 11. The betting odds favor the OVER for this prop at -125 with +105 odds for the UNDER. The Patriots probably have the best shot to win at least 14 games for two main reasons. One, they play in the AFC East where they should go 6-0. The other is head coach Bill Belichick. His teams have won at least 14 games five times in his extended 19 seasons at the helm.
This year’s schedule is somewhat favorable with a road game against the Philadelphia Eagles and a home game against the Kansas City Chiefs as the two biggest roadblocks. However, the gap between the Patriots and the rest of the league is not as wide as it once was.
A few other teams that could cross the 13.5-game threshold are Kansas City, Philadelphia and the New Orleans Saints with a projected win total of 10.5 games. Given the high level of competition each team faces in their regular season schedule, getting to 14 wins would be a reach. Go with the UNDER at -130 for this prop.
Most Losses- 13.5
At the opposite end of the spectrum, the betting odds actually favor the OVER for this prop at -150 betting odds. The betting odds that no team will lose 14 or more games this season have been set at an even-money +100.
There are some terrible teams in the NFL, but in some respects, it is almost as hard to lose 14 games, and it is to win that many. The Miami Dolphins have the lowest projected win total heading into this season at 4.5 games. The betting odds are set at -110 for the OVER and the UNDER. The next lowest win total for the Cincinnati Bengals and the Arizona Cardinals is set as 5.5 games.
All three of these teams will be firmly in the hunt for the first overall pick in next year’s NFL draft. However, my best bet for this prop is the UNDER 13.5 losses at +100. Even the worst team in the NFL last season (Arizona) won four games.
YES/NO: Perfect Record/Winless
Perfect 16-0 Record
When it comes to betting the prop for a perfect 16-0 run through the NFL regular season, the odds heavily favor NO at -2000. The betting odds for YES are set at +1000.
In recent memory, only one NFL team successfully won all 16 regular-season games; the 2007 New England Patriots. They went to the Super Bowl that year only to lose to the New York Giants. As good as the Patriots still are heading into this season, I do think they are going to have at least three losses in the standings.
Winless 0-16 Record
The betting odds for this prop heavily favor the NO at -2000 with the betting odds set at +1000.
The Cleveland Browns lost all of their games in 2017, and now they are favored to win the AFC North. Parity is still very much alive and well in the NFL to the point where all 32 teams should win at least four games this year.
