Baltimore at Pittsburgh Overview

The Ravens are off to a 2-1 start both straight-up and against the spread following last Sunday’s 27-14 win at home against Denver as a 5.5-point favorite. This start includes a lopsided victory against Buffalo as 7.5-point home favorites in Week 1 followed by a 34-23 loss to AFC North rival Cincinnati as slight one-point favorites on the road. The total stayed UNDER 46 points against the Broncos after going OVER in Baltimore’s first two outings.

Veteran quarterback Joe Flacco has caught some heat the past few seasons for his inconsistent play. Through his first three starts this season, he has completed 63.6 percent of his 129 passing attempts for 889 yards and six touchdowns against two interceptions. Alex Collins has been the Ravens’ top rusher with 116 yards and two touchdowns on 34 carries. Baltimore’s defense comes into Sunday night’s game ranked fifth in the NFL in average points allowed (17.0).

Pittsburgh first three games have been a mixed bag at 1-1-1 SU with a 1-2 record ATS. After settling for 21-21 tie against Cleveland as a 3.5-point road favorite, it was on the losing end of a 42-37 setback against Kansas City as a four-point favorite at home. The Steelers finally posted their first SU win of the season in another wild one with a 30-27 road victory against Tampa Bay on Monday night as slight one-point underdogs. The total has gone OVER in each of their first three games.

Putting points on the board has not been an issue for Ben Roethlisberger and Pittsburgh’s high-powered offense. He has thrown for 1,140 yards and seven touchdowns in his first three games with JuJu Smith-Shuster leading the team in both receptions (27) and receiving yards (356). James Conner has been the featured back in the ground game with 213 rushing yards and three rushing touchdowns on 54 carries. The Steelers’ defense has been gouged for an average of 30 PPG, which is 28th on the list in the NFL.

Baltimore at Pittsburgh Betting Trends

  • The Ravens are 12-4 ATS in their last 16 division games, but they have failed to cover in four of their previous five games in Week 4. The total has gone OVER in five of their last six games following a straight up win.
  • The Steelers have failed to cover in their last four AFC North games and they have been unable to cover in their previous seven games coming off a straight up win. The total has gone OVER in their last five division games.
  • Head-to-head in this bitter division clash, the underdog has gone 5-1-1 ATS in the last seven meetings, and the total has gone OVER or ended as a PUSH in four of the previous five meetings in Pittsburgh.

Baltimore at Pittsburgh Prediction 09/30/2018

Games between these teams tend to be close, hard-fought battles that do not get decided until late in the game. The gap in talent between these two familiar foes does not appear to be as wide as it has been over the past few seasons, which could easily make this a three-point game either way.

I do not see Baltimore slowing down the Steelers all that much on offense, but the Ravens should be able to put some points on the board against a very porous Pittsburgh defense. That sets the stage for a play on the OVER against a total line of 51 points.
