Baltimore Ravens at Kansas City Chiefs Pick – Odds and Against the Spread Predictions

By Ryan K

Two of the AFC’s best face off in Week 14 as the Baltimore Ravens travel to Arrowhead Stadium to take on the Kansas City Chiefs. Baltimore is fresh off a 26-16 victory over the Atlanta Falcons, while Kansas City snuck out of Oakland with a 40-33 win over the Raiders. It was a good tune-up matchup for the Chiefs as they prepare for one of the league’s best defensive units. The Ravens offense has been much more efficient with Lamar Jackson under center. This week against the Chiefs will mark Jackson’s fourth-straight start, as he’s helped the Ravens win their last three games.

Ravens Need a Huge Win

Baltimore had fallen off after losing three straight games against the Saints, Panthers, and Steelers. Joe Flacco gets hurt and enters Lamar Jackson who has been everything as advertised. Jackson has done it will his legs rushing for 265 yards over his last three games. The throwing accuracy has room to improve but the QB is a playmaker, and he proved that in Sunday’s win over Atlanta with a 13-yard touchdown run where he split two defenders. Against the Falcons, Jackson recorded 125 passing yards on 12-of-21 pass attempts and 17 carries for 75 rushing yards and the score.

Gus Edwards has been impressive out of the backfield over the Ravens winning streak, averaging 105 yards on the ground during that span. The bread and butter of that team is definitely their defense that ranks 1st in total yards (281.7) and 1st in points allowed (17.8). Marlon Humphrey shut down Julio Jones on Sunday, holding him to just 2 receptions for 18 yards. The defense ranks incredibly in every category, 2nd in passing yards (194.4), 3rd in rushing yards (87.3) and 3rd in 3rd down % (34.2).

Kansas City Rolling on Offense

Now you enter a Kansas City team who is setting records on the offensive side of the ball. In Sunday’s game against Oakland, Patrick Mahomes became the 3rddifferent player in NFL history to throw at least 40 passing TD’s in their team’s first 12 games of a season. He joins Tom Brady (2007) and Peyton Manning (2004 and 2013). Mahomes completed 23-of-38 pass attempts against the Raiders for 295 yards and 4 TDs. The QB also led his team in rushing with 52 yards on the ground. In Spencer Ware’s first start at RB since the Chiefs cut Kareem Hunt, he finished with 14 carries for 47 yards and a touchdown.

While the run game struggled, it was the Travis Kelce show, as the TE reeled in 12 catches for 168 yards and 2 TDs. Those numbers for Kelce are straight out of a video game, as the TE is well on his way to make another trip to the Pro Bowl. It was a surprisingly very quiet game for Tyreek Hill who finished with just 3 touches for 50 yards. The Chiefs resigned Charcandrick West to add some depth to the backfield. This makes sense considering West spent the last four seasons including most of training camp this year with the team, so he should know the playbook and be able to help immediately.

Chiefs Edge Out Ravens 12/09/2018

The Ravens will be the 5th top-8 defense in Adjusted Fantasy Points Allowed to QB’s that Patrick Mahomes has faced his season. His passing lines in the first 4: 304-1-0, 303-4-1, 375-3-1 and 249-3-0. Despite how good the Baltimore defense is, it’s hard to see the Ravens offense keeping up with such a high-powered offense. Especially in Arrowhead Stadium, where the Chiefs are 5-0 on the season, playing behind one of the NFL’s loudest crowds.
