2024 NFC Championship
San Francisco’s 49ers stand as the class of the NFC as of late, playing in four of the last five conference championship games and winning twice, including last season. They’ll go off as solid favorites to win the NFC again this season.
But Detroit’s Lions, roaring again after playing so quietly for so long, think they’ve got a chance, as do a few others.
With July training camps fast approaching, here’s how some football bookmakers were handicapping this season’s NFC race.
San Francisco steamed its way to 12 wins and the top seed in the NFC last season. The Niners then survived upset bids from Green Bay and Detroit to win the conference crown. They nearly won the Super Bowl before falling late to the Kansas City Chiefs.
Heading into this season, with top-5 units on both sides of the ball, the 49ers sat atop FanDuel’s NFC championship board at +250.
Those Detroit Lions won their first division title in 30 years last season and played San Francisco to within a couple of field goals of their first-ever NFC championship. Can Detroit take that next step and win a championship this season? Or might the Lions be ripe for a letdown?
FanDuel was listing Detroit as the second choice on its NFC board at +600.
The Dallas Cowboys won 12 games again last season and led the League in scoring. But once again, Dallas failed to reach the NFC championship game, getting punked by the Packers at home in the wild-card round.
Heading into this season, with a big question mark at the running back position, the Cowboys were catching +650 to win the NFC at Bet365.
The Philadelphia Eagles won the NFC two seasons ago and entered last season as the favorites to repeat at around +300. Philly started the season 10-1, but something clicked in the wrong direction, and the Eagles lost six of their last seven games, including a pathetic performance in the playoffs against Tampa Bay. Now Philadelphia enters this season as one of the bigger question marks in the League.
Still, the Eagles were lined at +700 to win the NFC this season at FanDuel.
And those Green Bay Packers, who apparently found their next franchise quarterback, were getting +850 on FanDuel’s NFC championship board.
Next Tier of Contenders
The next tier in the NFC includes the Atlanta Falcons, an intriguing choice getting +1200 at Bet365, and the resurgent Los Angeles Rams, getting +1600 at Bet365.
