This season’s Belk Bowl in Charlotte features the ACC’s Wake Forest Demon Deacons as slight favorites against the SEC’s Texas A&M Aggies. Kickoff on Friday, Dec. 29 from Bank of America Stadium is set for 1 p.m. (ET) and the game will be available on ESPN.
Wake Forest vs. Texas A&M Game Overview
Wake Forest’s season ended on a down note in a stunning 31-23 loss to Duke as a 10-point home favorite. The Demon Deacons went an even 4-4 straight-up in the ACC this year as part of an overall record of 7-5. The highlights included a 10-point victory against Louisville as 2.5-point home underdogs and a solid showing against Clemson in a 28-14 loss as 21.5-point underdogs on the road. Wake Forest was 8-3-1 against the spread with the total staying UNDER in its final two games.

Senior quarterback John Wolford took most of the snaps under center and he finished the season with 2,792 yards passing and 25 touchdown throws against six interceptions. He will not have his top receiver for this game with Greg Dortch done for the year with abdomen injury in a passing game that averaged 266.6 yards per game. Wolford was the second-leading rusher on an offense that averaged 184.2 rushing yards a game.
The Aggies also went down in defeat in its last game with a 45-21 loss to LSU as 11-point road underdogs. One of their best showings of the season was an eight-point loss to Alabama at home as 25.5-point underdogs. The net result was a SU 7-5 record while going 6-5-1 ATS. The total went OVER in three of their last four games. Texas A&M posted a 3-2-1 record ATS in six games closing as an underdog.
Freshman quarterback Nick Starkel missed six games early in the season, but he was back under center down the stretch to throw for 1,232 yards and 10 touchdowns in his last five games. He threw for 416 yards and four touchdowns in a victory against New Mexico on Nov. 11. The Aggies averaged 31.1 points a game on offense while allowing an average of 28.7 points on the other side of the ball.
Wake Forest vs. Texas A&M Game Betting Trends
- The Demon Deacons have gone a perfect 4-0 ATS in their last four bowl games and they have covered in eight of their last 10 games against a team with a SU winning record. The total has gone OVER in four of their last five nonconference games.
