The Owls opened their season against Philadelphia-rival Villanova, and they came up short in a 19-17 loss as 14.5-point home favorites. Last Saturday against the Mid-American Buffalo Bulls, they found themselves on the wrong end of a 36-29 loss as four-point favorites at home to start the season 0-2 both straight-up and against the spread. The total went OVER 52 points in last week’s loss. Temple was able to cover in its previous four road games in 2017 as part of a 7-2 record ATS in their last seven contests.
The early takeaways from this Temple offense are a mixed bag with Frank Nutile throwing for 401 yards, but completing just 52.4 of his 63 passing attempts. He also four interceptions to go along with his four touchdown throws. Ryquell Armstead has run the ball 28 times for 138 yards, but the Owls have a grand total of just 161 yards on the ground through their first two games. The defense allowed 427 total yards in the Week 2 loss to Buffalo, which is not exactly known as an offensive juggernaut.
Maryland made a statement in its season opener by knocking off Texas 34-29 as a 12-point home underdog. It followed it up with last Saturday’s 45-14 rout against Bowling Green as a 13.5-point road favorite. The Terrapins lost seven of their last eight games in 2017 SU following an encouraging 3-1 start. They ended the year 5-7 ATS, and the total went OVER in nine of their 12 games.
In the game against Texas in Week 1 of this season, Kasim Hill put the ball up 29 times, and he completed 17 passes for 222 yards and a score. A host of players ran the ball in that game for a total of 143 yards and two scores on 46 rushing attempts. Through its first two games, the Terrapins have gained 385 yards through the air and 587 yards on the ground. Ty Johnson is the team’s leading rusher with 154 yards and one touchdown on 23 carries.
