Week 10’s college football betting odds opened Auburn as an -18-point favorite over Ole Miss, with an over/under of right around 54. Early betting action then bumped the Tigers to -20 and dipped that total to 53.
Rebs vs. Tigers Set-Up
Ole Miss is 3-5 on the season, a loser of two games in a row, after falling at home to Texas A&M two weeks ago 24-17. The Rebels then had last week off.
Ole Miss led the Aggies two weeks ago 14-10 midway through the third quarter and had the ball, but fumbled it away into an A&M defensive touchdown to fall behind and could not recover. The Rebs also came up just short of covering the spread as six-point dogs.
On the night, Ole Miss out-gained the Aggies 405-340 and won the ground game 250-168. But the Rebs also missed a field goal after reaching the A&M 19-yard line and had another one blocked after reaching the Aggies’ 10.
Just prior to that, Ole Miss lost at Missouri 38-27 but salvaged a back-door cover as a 12-point dog.
With wins earlier this season over Arkansas and Vanderbilt and losses to Cal and Alabama, the Rebs are 2-4 SU but 4-2 ATS against Power 5 opponents this season.
Ole Miss also needs three wins over its last four games to become bowl-eligible.
Auburn, meanwhile, is 6-2, ranked No. 11 in this week’s AP poll, after falling at now-No. 1 Louisiana State last week 23-20. The Tigers, as 11-point underdogs, led that game 13-10 well into the third quarter, gave up the next 10 points to fall behind, got back within one score with two minutes to go but couldn’t recover an onside kick. But they did hang on for the cash.
On the night Auburn got out-gained by LSU 508-287, only made 16 first downs to 30 for the other Tigers and committed 15 penalties.
Two weeks ago, Auburn beat Arkansas 51-20, but just before that, it lost at Florida 24-13. With earlier win/covers over a pretty good Oregon team, Kentucky, Texas A&M, and Mississippi State, the Tigers are 5-2 SU, 6-1 ATS against Power 5 foes this year.
At 3-2 in conference play, Auburn trails 5-0 Alabama by two games in the SEC West, with LSU in-between, so the Tigers’ division title hopes are hanging by a thread.
