Auburn opened its season with a sweet 21-16 victory over a ranked Washington Huskies outfit, and last week dispatched of Alabama State 63-9. The Tigers, favored by a ridiculous 61 points last week, led the Hornets at the half 42-2, then basically called off the dogs from there and came up two scores short of cashing in.

Louisiana State, meanwhile, opened its season with what we thought was a surprising 33-17 victory over a ranked Miami Hurricanes. Then last week the Tigers blanked Southeastern Louisiana 31-0.
LSU grabbed a quick 14-0 lead on the Lions last Saturday, bumped that to 21-0 by the half and cruise-controlled it from there. But they did not deserve or attain the cover as 40-point favorites.
Louisiana State actually got outgained by Miami two weeks ago 342-296 but won the ground battle 156-83 and the turnover battle 2-0.
Comparably speaking, Auburn’s win over Washington is probably more impressive than LSU’s win over the Hurricanes.
The Rivalry/Recent History
LSU is 8-3 over the last 11 meetings with Auburn, but Auburn has won two of the previous four encounters and covered four of the last six. Last year, though LSU pulled a shocker, rallying from down 20-0 in the second quarter to beat what was a hot Auburn team at that moment 27-23, winning outright as a six-point home dog.
The key play in that game was a 75-yard punt return by LSU’s DJ Chark early in the fourth quarter that closed the score to 23-21.
