Louisiana-Lafayette and Georgia State played a barn-burner last season, decided by a field goal in overtime, so we’re hoping for more of the same when the teams meet for another Sun Belt Conference bout Thursday night down on the Bayou. The Cajuns ride a seven-game winning streak into Thursday night while the Panthers own a three-game victory run of their own.
ULL is favored by one of those mediocre numbers for this one; how are we playing this game with today’s college football pick?
Georgia State-Louisiana-Lafayette Betting Odds
This week’s college football betting lines opened the Ragin’ Cajuns as 11-point favorites for this game, with an over/under of right around 52. Early betting action then bumped that spread to -12.
Georgia State Betting Preview
The Panthers are 4-4 on the season after winning at Georgia Southern last Saturday, 21-14. Georgia Southern spotted the Eagles the first seven points of the game and didn’t hit the scoreboard until midway through the third quarter. But with the game tied at 14-14 with a minute and a half left, GSU drove to a touchdown for the victory and the cover as a six-point favorite.
Georgia State got out-gained by Georgia Southern 486-378 and lost time of possession by a 35:25 split. But the Panthers also ran the ball for 237 yards and won the turnover battle 2-0.
So since starting this season 1-4, with losses to Army, North Carolina, Auburn, and Appalachian State, GSU is 3-0 both SU and ATS.
At 3-1 in conference play, the Panthers are tied for first place in the SBC East with App State and Coastal Carolina, although they would lose the tie-breaker to the Mountaineers. Georgia State also needs two more wins over its last four games to become bowl-eligible.
Louisiana-Lafayette Betting Preview
The Cajuns, meanwhile, are 7-1 on the season after blanking Texas State last Saturday 45-0. Lafayette started slowly, then scored 17 points in the second quarter to lead 17-0 into halftime. The Cajuns then pulled away in the second half for the win and the money as 21-point favorites.
UL-L out-gained the Bobcats 425-205, made 24 first downs to 10 for Texas State, and won the turnover battle 3-0.
So since opening this season with that disappointing loss to Texas, the Cajuns are 7-0 SU, although only 3-4 ATS, favored by too much too often.
At 5-0 in conference play, Lafayette leads the SBC West by three games over UL-Monroe and South Alabama.
These two teams have played three common opponents so far this season; UL-L played 3-0 SU, 2-1 ATS against App State, Texas State, and Georgia Southern, while GSU played 2-1 both SU and ATS versus the Mountaineers, Bobcats, and Eagles.
