The Week 10 college football betting market opened Syracuse as a three-point home favorite for Friday night, with an over/under of right around 51.
Boston College-Syracuse Betting Preview
The Eagles fly a four-game winning streak into Friday night after beating Connecticut Saturday 21-14. Boston College, favored by 14 points over the one-win Huskies, fell down 7-0 right off the bat. The Eagles recovered to lead 14-7 at the half, scored the first seven points of the second half to take control but couldn’t quite pull away, and won but didn’t cover.
Boston College out-gained UConn 433-222, out-rushed the Huskies 246-92, and dominated time of possession by a 41:19 split. But they lost the turnover battle 2-0, which basically cost them 10 points, and missed a field goal.
The Eagles started 1-3 this season, but one loss came in overtime against Northern Illinois, and another came by two points against Florida State. They then won close games against Virginia and Army, then beat Georgia Tech and UConn.
Boston College missed a bowl last season, but with 15 returning starters for this season, hopes were high. They’re now one win away from bowl eligibility.
Meanwhile, the Orange lug a four-game losing skid into Friday night after falling at Virginia Tech last Thursday 38-10. Syracuse gave up points the first five times its defense hit the field, trailed 30-3 at the half, and mounted no challenge from there, totally whiffing ATS at +2.5.
The Orange got out-gained by the Hokies 528-138, out-rushed 318-0 (thanks in part to taking eight sacks), and just generally stunk.
Syracuse started 4-0 this season but has lost its first four ACC games by an average score of 38-9. Yikes.
The Orange made a bowl last year and with 14 returning starters, hoped to make a bowl this year, too. But at the moment, that prospect seems iffy.
Boston College-Syracuse Recent History
The Orange owns the edge in the recent rivalry with the Eagles, winning five of the last eight meetings against SU, going 5-3 ATS along the way. Last year, Syracuse, favored by 10 points up at Chestnut Hill, fell down 10-0 early, then came back to lead 32-17 with less than a minute to go. But the Orange allowed BC to score a meaningless TD with seven seconds left to piss away the cover.
That game was 10-6 through three quarters, then played over a total of 47, as the teams combined to score 39 points in the fourth quarter!
