The Falcons come into this contest on a high note after executing a 38-0 shutout of FCS team Stony Brook, last Saturday when they hosted the activities in Colorado Springs. The Falcons are known like other military service schools for their straightforward style of offense, the triple option. Against Stony Brook, the Falcons had success doing what they do best and accumulated 303 yards of rushing on the ground in route to their comprehensive win.
Florida Atlantic Owls
The Owls come in off a 63-14 loss when they opened up their season on the road at Oklahoma. The Owls were at one point offered as a 21-point pooch but saw itself fall to an 18-point pup at the closing bell. As a public underdog, the Owls were down and out quick when Oklahoma got all over them leading by as much as 56 points before the Sooners called it quits. The final tally created a lot of poor impressions of the Owls despite the fact this game was still meant to be a scheduled loss for Lane Kiffin and company.
Reasons To Back Florida Atlantic
For those that forget, the Owls started off their season 1-3 SU last season before it went on to win 10 games in a row to close out the season with all the accolades and commemorations that it acquired. The first two losses for Florida Atlantic, in particular, were grisly ones as they were smacked around by both Navy and Wisconsin in back-to-back games, losing by an average margin of 20 points in each affair. However, this did not stop the Owls from swooping in and taking the country by storm down the backstretch and given the step down in oppositional quality, FAU is favored here for a reason.
Reasons To Avoid Air Force
Any time you see the public jump all over an underdog, it raises a red flag. Last week, we saw similar situations occur in both the Wyoming and Northern Illinois game and needless to say, both teams got smeared across the floor. As a result of an overreaction to FAU’s performance last week in Norman, it is all but forgotten that the Falcons finished 5-7 SU last season and missed a bowl game after piecing together a 10-3 season the year before. The jury is out as to whether this team is genuinely heading back in the right direction or in a transitional stage. The fact remains FAU still has the talent it had last year to run the table the rest of the way.
