Marquette, favored by 11 points over the worst team in the conference, spurted to a double-digit lead five minutes in and led 45-33 at the half. The Eagles then never allowed the Hoyas to get within the spread from there and later led by 25 on their way to the win and the money. Marquette shot 52 percent from the floor Saturday and hit 15/31 from 3-point land. Two games ago, the Eagles fell way down early at Connecticut and lost 87-72. But just before that, Marquette won five in a row. At 12-3 in conference play, the Eagles lead the Big East by a half-game over 11-3 Xavier. Also, at 20-6 and 19-6 overall, respectively, Marquette and the Musketeers look like very good bets to receive NCAA tournament bids. On the injury front, Xavier F Zach Freemantle (15 points, eight rebounds per game this season) has missed the last three games with a bad foot, and he’ll miss this one, too.
