St. Louis-Dayton Betting Preview
The Billikens just snapped a two-game losing skid with a 76-71 victory over Rhode Island Tuesday night. St. Louis eeked out a 32-31 lead into halftime, later led by eight points, then allowed the Rams to tie the score at 71-71 with just over a minute to go. But SLU took the lead for good on a 3-pointer with 30 seconds left and hung on for the much-needed win.
However, the Billikens came up short versus the spread as 11-point favorites against one of the poorer teams in the A-10.
St. Louis only shot 44 percent from the floor Tuesday but held URI to 44 percent, too. The Billikens also hit 10/25 from 3-point land.
Two games ago, St. Louis lost outright at home to VCU 73-65 as a three-point favorite. Three games ago, they lost outright at Fordham 75-65 as four-point favorites. But before that, the Billikens won six in a row.
At 8-3 in conference play, St. Louis sits in second place in the A-10, just a half-game back of first-place VCU.
The Flyers, meanwhile, just bounced back from a loss at home to St. Bonaventure last weekend to win at VCU Tuesday night 62-58. Dayton, playing as a three-point underdog, fell behind by 11 early but rallied back to lead 36-32 into the locker room. The Flyers later fell behind by a point midway through the second half but used a 14-4 run to take the lead for good and held on from there.
Dayton shot 44 percent from the field Tuesday, held the Rams to just 39 percent shooting, and won the battle on the boards 41-33.
Two games ago, the Flyers lost outright at home to the Bonnies 68-59 as five-point favorites. Three games ago, they needed overtime to beat Loyola-Chicago 85-81 as 14-point chalk against the A-10’s worst team.
Going back a bit, Dayton is only 4-4 SU, 2-6 ATS its last eight times out.
Still, at 8-4 in conference play, the Flyers are only a game out of first place.
Bigger picture, can either of these teams make the NCAA tournament? At the moment, it appears they might have to win the A-10 tournament to receive a bid.
