The talented freshman of Duke will face a tough ACC road test on Saturday afternoon. The Blue Devils will travel to Tallahassee to take on an athletic Florida State squad. Duke is the clear favorite to win the ACC this season, but the Seminoles look like a real challenger. This game should give us a better idea of just how good each team is.
Duke enters the week as the number-one ranked team in the latest AP poll. The Blue Devils have won 12 of their first 13 games this season and pounded Clemson in their Big Ten opener. Florida State is also ranked in the top-10, suffering just two losses on the season. The Seminoles struggled in the conference opening loss to Virginia. Duke will likely be a small favorite in this matchup.
Barrett, Williamson Carrying Duke
Duke entered this season with a talented trio of freshman, but two of them have really stood out. RJ Barrett leads the team with 22.9 points per game this season and has the ability to score from anywhere on the floor. Zion Williamson seems to deliver an ESPN highlight in each game and is pouring in 20.2 points and grabbing 9.5 rebounds per game. If Duke is going to cut down the nets in April, they will need more production from freshman Cam Reddish. Reddish is averaging 12.8 points per game, but more was expected from him.
The Blue Devils are one of the highest scoring teams in the country, averaging more than 91 points per game. Duke can beat teams in a variety of ways, but they play extremely fast and love to push the tempo. The young freshmen have bought in on the defensive end as well, allowing just over 65 points per game. Duke is extremely talented, and they look focused through the early part of the season.
Seminoles Must Find Offense
If Florida State is going to make a run at the ACC title, they are going to have to score more points on a consistent basis. The Seminoles scored just 52 points against the stellar defense of Virginia and will face another tough test against Duke. Florida State will need to slow this game down if they are going to upset the Blue Devils at home.
Florida State has just three players averaging double-figures on the season, but they have plenty of depth. Terance Mann leads the team with 12.1 points and 6.4 rebounds per game entering conference play and will need a big performance in this game. The Seminoles are shooting 74 percent from the free throw line, and need to do a better job of drawing fouls.
