Kyle Busch stayed red-hot with his second-straight victory in a Sprint Cup point race with last Sunday’s win at New Hampshire. Brad Keselowski raced the No. 2 car to a second-place finish and Kevin Harvick made his way into the Top 3. I went with Matt Kenseth at +1000 odds as my top-valued pick, but he could only manage a sixth-place finish after starting eighth.
The following is a look at a few of the top favorites to win this Sunday’s Brickyard 400 at Indianapolis along with my top value pick based on betting odds provided by Sportsbook.
Kevin Harvick returned to the Top 3 last week after a rare four-race absence and he is also at the top of this week’s NASCAR odds list to win this Sunday at +400. Along with his two back-to-back victories early in the season, the defending 2014 Sprint Cup Champ as now guided the No. 4 car to a total of 11 finishes in the Top 3 in the first 19 point races this year. This has him cemented at the top of the Sprint Cup standings with a total of 734 points. Looking back at his recent performance at the Brickyard, Harvick has failed to crack the Top 10 in his last four trips around this track in a Sprint Cup race.
Almost like a broken record, the second-best Sprint Cup driver this season is the second favorite to win with Jimmie Johnson’s betting odds for Sunday’s race set at +700. You could easily make the argument that he is actually the best driver given the No. 48 car’s four checkered flags this year. He has also guided this team to another six Top 5 finishes to hold down fourth-place in the standings with 646 total points. What really adds the value to Johnson’s odds this week is four career victories at the Brickyard in the Sprint Cup series with the last coming in 2012.
The third-favorite on this week’s list is a bit of surprise with Martin Truex Jr. listed at +800 odds to win his second point race of the year. There is no denying that he has been a consistent driver all season long with Top 10 finishes in 14 of the first 19 races, but the No. 78 cars has only finished inside the Top 5 in five races this year and it has not placed better than 12th in the last four events. Truex’s track record at Indy adds little value to these odds with an average finishing position of 20.8 and just one Top-10 finish in 10 career Sprint Cup races at the Brickyard.
