NASCAR’s Cup Series makes its annual stop at Watkins Glen International for this Sunday’s GoBowling at The Glen road race. The green flag is set to wave at 2 p.m. with NBC Sports Network carrying the race nationally.
GoBowling at The Glen – Top Value Picks
Last Sunday at Pocono Raceway, Denny Hamlin became just the fifth different driver with multiple Cup Series victories this season with the win. I almost cashed in big on Eric Jones as my top-valued +2200 longshot with his second-place finish, and Martin Truex Jr. took third.
Turning to Sunday’s road course at Watkins Glen, the following three drivers offer the best value in their odds to win as posted by 5Dimes online sportsbook.

GoBowling at The Glen Top Favorite – Martin Truex Jr. +370
Truex has already demonstrated his racing versatility with strong performances at any style track he runs. The No. 19 Toyota has also shown that it is one of the fastest cars on the track this season. Through the first 21 Cup Series point events, this team has four victories and a total of 13 runs inside the top 10. Current form has been enhanced with last week’s third-place finish at Pocono. The odds to win this Sunday’s race have been improved with Truex’s earlier win this season on the road course at Sonoma.
Last year’s second-place finish at Watkins Glen is another big plus. After placing seventh in 2016’s race, he posted his first career victory on this road course the following season as part of the current hot streak.
GoBowling at The Glen Top Contender – Kevin Harvick +1300
This pick mirrors my betting strategy of taking one of NASCAR’s top drivers at longer odds regardless of that week’s racing venue. With just one victory to his credit, Harvick appears to be having a sub-par season, but his No. 4 Ford is still holding down third place in the current Cup Series standings with a total of 739 points. Along with the recent victory at New Hampshire to end his winless streak, Harvick has also posted a total of 13 Top 10 runs. One of those finishes was sixth on the road course at Sonoma.
His recent performance at this road course does drain some value from the longer odds along with Harvick’s 13.3 average finishing position at The Glen. His lone victory here was in 2006, and he came close to winning again in 2015 with a third-place finish.
GoBowling at The Glen Top Longshot – Daniel Suarez +3000
Suarez is fighting for his postseason life heading into the final round of regular-season races ahead of this year’s 10-race playoff to the racing title. His No. 41 Ford is in 18th place in the current standings with 501 total points. He can still get into the top 16 on points, but winning a race is the only guaranteed way to earn a spot in the playoff field. His best effort on the year was a third-place finish at Texas early in the season followed by a fourth-place run more recently at Michigan. The overall racing resume is less than impressive (other than those two Top 5 efforts) with Suarez competing in just his third Cup Series season. That is the main reason for such long odds on Sunday.
The reason why he jumped off the page as my top-valued longshot was last season’s fourth-place finish at Watkins Glen following a third-place effort his rookie year. He does have some road race experience that automatically gives him a built-in edge over most of the drivers in this Sunday’s field.
