Before last week’s open date in the schedule, Kyle Busch took the checkered flag at Bristol to add a second point-race victory to his 2017 racing resume. Erik Jones finished in the top three for the second race in a row by taking second place at Bristol and Denny Hamlin turned in a solid run to finish third.
The following is a look at a few of the top favorites to win this Sunday night’s race at Darlington along with my top value pick based on betting odds provided by 5Dimes.

Bojangles Southern 500 Race Favorites
Now that Kyle Busch has once again caught the attention of all the other drivers gunning for a Cup Series title this season, he has also caught 5Dimes’ attention as a +400 favorite to win again this Sunday night. It would be hard to bet against the No. 18 Toyota as this team continues to build momentum for the start of the playoff. It still holds the second spot in the current standings with 850 points and, with that last win, this car has now finished inside the top five in nine events this year. On the down side, Busch’s average finishing position at this track is 12.8 and his lone career victory here came in 2008.
The second-favorite on the board to win is Martin Truex Jr. at +425. His recent hot streak behind the wheel of the No. 78 Toyota cooled a bit with a 21st-place finish at Bristol, but going back to an earlier victory at Kentucky, this race team has finished third or better in five of its last seven races. Truex remains at the top of the standings with 951 total points and he is the only Cup Series driver with four checkered flags on the 2017 racing resume. Adding even more value to his betting odds to win this week is his victory in this race last season.
Kyle Larson is once again one of the top favorites to win at +550 betting odds and he is coming off a respectable ninth-place finish his last time out. He has guided the No. 42 Chevrolet to three victories and another seven second-place runs this season to hold down the third spot in the standings with 845 total points. This has been a pretty amazing run for a driver that is competing in just his fourth full-time season at the Cup Series level. In three previous runs at Darlington, Larson has finished inside the top 10 each time including a third-place run in last year’s race.
