Kyle Larson ended the Cup Series regular season on a strong note with last Saturday night’s victory at Richmond. Joey Logano finished second, but remains out of the postseason picture while Ryan Newman took third. Matt Kenseth was my top-valued pick at Richmond at +900 betting odds, but his chances at winning that race ended with a wreck.
The following is a look at a few of the top favorites to win this Sunday’s race at Chicagoland along with my top value pick based on betting odds provided by 5Dimes.
Turtles 400 Race Favorites
Heading into NASCAR’s 10-race playoff for this year’s racing title, the top three drivers in the current Cup Series standings just so happen to be the top three favorites to win this Sunday’s race. At the top of the list at +350 is Martin Truex Jr. He has been a fixture this season at the top of the standings with four victories and six additional runs in the top five to come into this race with a series-high 2053 total points. The No. 78 Toyota has been in a mini-slump the past three weeks with engine issues and a wreck in last Saturday night’s race, but the real value in the odds lie in Truex’s victory at Chicagoland last season.

The second-favorite to win this race at 5Dimes is Kyle Busch at +500 betting odds. He slipped to third in the standings with 2029 total points with a ninth-place finish at Richmond, but this was on the heels of an incredible run that included two checkered flags at Pocono and Bristol to go along with a second-place run at Darlington two weeks ago. The No. 18 Toyota has finished inside the top five in 10 point-race events this season including five in this team’s last 11 runs. Busch has one career victory at this track in a Cup Series event back in 2008 and he has finished inside the Top 10 in his last five trips around this venue.
We know that Kyle Larson is coming into this race hot fresh off his victory at Richmond. This only adds value to his +550 odds to make a second-straight trip to the Winner’s Circle this Sunday. He has guided the No. 42 Chevrolet to second place in the standings with a total of 2033 points. Two of his four victories this season have come in his last four races and he is tied for first when it comes to total finishes inside the top five (11). In just his fourth full-time season racing at NASCAR’s highest level, Larson’s past experience at Chicagoland is limited, but he did take third in his first Cup Series race here in 2014.
