Joey Logano became the first Chase driver to punch his ticket to the next round with a victory last Saturday night at Charlotte. Kevin Harvick finished in second place and Martin Truex Jr. ended-up third. I came close with Denny Hamlin as my top valued favorite for last week’s race at +1000 betting odds after he remained in the mix all night long with a fourth-place finish
The following is a look at a few of the top favorites to win this Sunday’s Sprint Cup race along with my top value pick based on betting odds provided by TopBet.
Kevin Harvick is back on track in his pursuit of a second-straight Sprint Cup title with a Victory at Dover followed by last week’s second-place run. He comes into this Sunday’s race as a +450 favorite to stay hot with a win at Kansas. It would be hard to bet against Harvick in any of the races left in the Chase given just how dominant the No. 4 car has been this season. With last week’s finish, this team has placed in the Top 5 in 20 of 30 races including three wins and an amazing 11 second-place finishes. One of those second-place runs was at Kansas earlier in the season to go along with a victory in this event in 2013.
The second-favorite to win on Sunday is Kyle Busch at +600. He has been all over the board in this year’s Chase and, after rallying at Dover with a second-place finish, the best he could do last Saturday night was 20th after starting second. He still offers some solid value for this race given this team’s ability to win in general with four victories on the year. The most impressive thing about these wins is that they came in a span of just five events. When it comes to this track, Busch missed the first race this season recovering from earlier injuries, but he did finish third in this event last season.
One of the hottest drivers in the opening round of this year’s Chase was Matt Kenseth with a victory at New Hampshire following a fifth-place finish at Chicago. However, he suddenly finds himself in trouble in the Contender Round after a costly wreck at Charlotte dropped the No. 20 car to 12th in the current Sprint Cup standings. This team leads the Sprint Cup series in total point race victories this season with five and it has been opened as a +700 third-favorite to bounce back with a win in this race. Kenseth has two career victories at this track with a win in this race in 2012 and in the first race of the 2013 season. He ended-up sixth in the first race at Kansas this year.
