Defending Sprint Cup Champion Kevin Harvick staved off elimination in this year’s Chase with a huge win last week at Dover. Both Kyle Busch and Dale Earnhardt Jr. also squeezed into the next round by taking second and third. I went with Carl Edwards as my top valued favorite for last week’s race at +1000 betting odds, but he faded to 15th place after starting third.
The following is a look at a few of the top favorites to win this Saturday night’s Sprint Cup race along with my top value pick based on betting odds provided by TopBet.
With a world of momentum on his side following last week’s win, Kevin Harvick comes into this week’s race as +350 favorite to make it two in a row. The No. 4 car won back-to-back races early in the season at Las Vegas and Phoenix so the precedent to accomplish the feat has been set. Overall, this team has made its way into the Top 5 in 19 of 29 point races this season and it has been in the Top 10 in 23 events. Adding even more value to his odds is the fact that Harvick comes in as the defending champion of this week’s race. It was his third career Sprint Cup victory at this track.
Kyle Busch is coming of a strong run at Dover that not only extended his stay in this year’s Chase, but also helped to set the No. 18 car up as a +600 second-favorite to win this week. Starting in late June this team put together the most impressive run this season in the Sprint Cup series with four victories in the span of just five events. Busch made his return to the track this season at Charlotte after missing the first 11 races recovering from injuries suffered in a Speed Week wreck at Daytona. He finished 11th in that event after posting a Top 5 finish in five of his previous seven races at this track.
One of the hottest drivers in the Challenger Round of the Chase was Matt Kenseth with a victory at New Hampshire after placing fifth at Chicago. This came just two weeks after he guided the No. 20 car to a first place finish at Richmond on Sept. 12. These two checkered flags helped bring this team’s point-race win total to a series-high five on the year and it comes into Saturday night’s race as a +700 third-favorite to add to that number. Kenseth started from the pole in the first race at Charlotte this season and finished fourth. His last Sprint Cup victory at this track was in this event in 2011.
