Jimmie Johnson continued his dominance on the Monster Mile at Dover with a victory in last Sunday’s FedEx 400. Kevin Harvick stayed right on his tail by finishing second ad Kyle Larson took third. My value pick for this race was Joey Logano at +1000 betting odds, but he fell out of the top 10 with an 11th-place finish.
The following is a look at a few of the top favorites to win this Sunday’s Axalta 400 at Pocono along with my top value pick based on betting odds provided by Sportsbook.ag.
The duo of Kevin Harvick and Jimmie Johnsonare right back on top of the list for this Sunday’s race with Harvick getting the slight nod as a +400 favorite. It is hard to bet against the No. 4 car when you consider what the defending Sprint Cup Champion has already accomplished through the first 13 point races this season. It has been awhile since this team posted back-to-back victories at Las Vegas and Phoenix in March, but it now has a grand total of seven additional second-place finishes to its credit. Harvick is still looking for his first career victory in a Sprint Cup race at Pocono, but he is coming off a second-place finish in last season’s second race here.
Jimmie Johnson became the first four-time winner this season with last week’s victory and he has now led the No. 48 car to a finish of fifth or better eight times this year. He been opened as a +500 second-favorite to win again this week and it would be hard to bet against this team as well. It is still in third-place the current Sprint Cup standings with 440 total points, but it is lapping the field when it comes to taking checkered flags. Johnson has three previous victories in a point race at this track and last season he finished sixth in this race. His average finishing position at Pocono is just inside the top 10 at 9.9.
The third-favorite to win this Sunday’s race at +700 odds is Kurt Busch. He is another driver that is consistently placed near the top of the list by Sportsbook when it comes to the betting odds to win a race, but his ability to actual payoff is not all that high. The No. 41 car did win once this season at Richmond, but since that race it has not placed higher than eighth in its last four Sprint Cup events. There could be some added value in this week’s odds after Busch posted a third-place finish in last year’s event. His average finishing position at Pocono is 14.7, but he has placed third or better in four of his last seven trips around this track.
