Cardinals-Mets MLB Betting Preview
St. Louis just took two of three games at home from San Francisco over the weekend, winning Sunday night’s series rubber match 15-6. Just before that, the Cardinals lost two of three games to Baltimore, and just before that, they lost the last two games of a series against San Francisco. So St. Louis is only 3-5 over its last eight games.
At 19-15 overall, the Cardinals sit in second place in the NL Central, 2.5 games behind first-place Milwaukee.
New York, meanwhile, just suffered its first series loss of this season, losing two of three games at home to Seattle, including Sunday’s rubber match 8-7. Just before that, the Mets took two of three games from Washington, and just before that, they took two of three from Philadelphia. So New York is 4-3 over its last seven games.
At 23-13 overall, the Mets lead the NL East by 5.5 games over the second-place Phillies.
This series is the second meeting between these teams this season; three weeks ago, New York took two of three games at Busch Stadium.
Monday’s Pitching Match-Up
Williams will be making his second start of this season to go along with four appearances in relief. Last Wednesday, he tossed 3 2/3 innings of scoreless relief against Washington, although New York lost that game 8-3. But over his two appearances previous to that, he got clipped for seven runs and ten hits through 5 2/3 innings.
The Mets lost Williams’ only other start this season, 5-2 to Arizona.
Over three appearances last year against St. Louis, Williams allowed four runs and nine hits through 6 1/3 innings.
Mikolas is 4/7 on quality starts this year and three for his last four. Last Wednesday, he held Baltimore to one run and four hits through seven innings of a 10-1 Cardinals win. And over his last six starts, he’s allowed just five runs and 26 hits through 38 2/3 innings.
St. Louis is 5-2 with Mikolas this year and should be even better than that.
In one start already this season against the Mets, Mikolas tossed seven innings of four-hit, shutout ball, although the Cardinals lost that game 5-2.
