Velasquez is 0/5 on quality starts this season, but he’s been good his last couple of times out. Last Friday, he held Boston to one run and three hits through five innings of a 4-2 Chicago victory. And just before that, he held the Angels scoreless through 5 2/3 innings of a 4-0 White Sox win.
Chicago is 3-2 with Velasquez this season, and that sounds about right.
In his only start against the Yankees last year, while pitching for Philadelphia, Velasquez gave up two runs and six hits through five frames of an 8-7 Phillies triumph.
Cole is 3/6 on quality starts this year and three for his last three. Last Sunday, he held Texas to one run and five hits through 6 1/3 innings, with one walk against ten strikeouts, in a 2-1 New York victory. And over his last three starts, he’s allowed just that one run and 14 hits through 19 innings, with four walks and 25 whiffs.
New York is 5-1 with Cole this season, 4-0 his last four times out.
In his only start against the White Sox last year, Cole threw seven innings of four-hit, shutout ball in a 7-0 Yankees win.
