Yankees-Mets MLB Betting Preview
The Yankees just took two of three games at Baltimore over the weekend, winning Sunday’s series rubber match 6-0. They then enjoyed Monday off.
Just before that, the Yanks dropped two games in Houston, but just before that, they took two of three games from Boston. But going back a bit further, the Yankees are only 2-2-2 over their last six series and 8-10 over their last 18 games.
At 66-31 overall, the Yanks still lead the AL East by 12.5 games over second-place Toronto, but their lead over Houston in the battle for the best record in the American League is down to two games.
The Mets, meanwhile, just dropped two of three games at home to San Diego, avoiding the sweep by winning Sunday’s rubber match 8-5. They then also had Monday off.
Just before that, the Mets took three of four games at the Cubs, and just before that, they won two of three at Atlanta. Going back a bit further, the Mets are 4-1-1 over their last six series and 12-8 over their last 20 games.
At 59-37 overall, the Mets lead the NL East by two games over the second-place Braves.
This series is the first meeting between these teams this season. Last year the Mets took the season series from the Yankees four games to two.
Tuesday’s Pitching Match-Up
Walker, by our strict standards, is 7/16 on quality starts this season and three for his last four. Last time out, ten days ago, he held the Cubs to one run and four hits through six innings of a 2-1 Mets victory. And over his last four starts, he’s allowed just four runs and 15 hits through 26 1/3 innings.
The Mets are 9-7 with Walker this season, 5-2 over his last seven starts.
Over two starts against the Yankees last season, Walker allowed seven runs and eight hits, including four home runs, through 11 2/3 innings. The Mets split those two games while both games played over their totals.
Lefty Montgomery is 8/19 on quality starts this year, pitching in some bad luck as of late. Last Thursday, he held Houston to two runs and seven hits through 6 1/3 innings, with one walk against eight strikeouts, although the Yanks lost that game 3-2. And over his last four starts, he’s allowed eight runs and 21 hits through 23 innings, with six walks against 24 whiffs; somehow, the Yankees lost all four of those games.
The Yanks are only 9-10 with Montgomery this year, but that’s probably two games worse than they should be.
Over two starts against the Mets last year, Montgomery got touched for ten runs – eight earned – and 13 hits through just 7 2/3 innings. The Yankees lost both those games, and both games played over their totals.

The Bullpens
The Mets bullpen owns a 3.53 ERA this season, along with a 1.22 WHIP.
The Yankees pen owns a 2.97 ERA and a 1.13 WHIP.
