Monday’s baseball betting lines opened New York and Montas at around -178 over Los Angeles and Suarez, with an over/under of eight runs. Both figures were holding steady in the early betting action.
Yankees-Angels MLB Betting Preview
New York just split four games at Oakland over the weekend, losing Sunday’s series finale 4-1. Just before that, the Yankees swept two games from the Mets, but just before that, they lost three of four to Toronto. Going back a bit further, New York is just 1-6-1 over its last eight series and 9-17 over its last 26 games.
At 78-50 overall, the Yankees still lead the AL East by 7.5 games over second-place Tampa Bay, but they also now trail Houston by 3.5 games in the battle for the best record in the American League.
Los Angeles, meanwhile, just swept three games at Toronto, winning Sunday’s series finale 8-3. But just before that, the Angels got swept four games at Tampa, and just before that, they lost two of three at Detroit. Going back a bit further, Los Angeles is 1-3 over its last four series and 4-9 over its last 13 games.
At 55-73 overall, the Angels are just playing out the string on yet another lost season.
This series is the second meeting between these teams this season. Back in June, the Yanks swept three games from LA in the Bronx.
Monday’s Pitching Match-Up
Suarez is just 2/14 on quality starts this season and 0 for his last two. Last Tuesday, he gave up three runs and eight hits through 5 1/3 innings of an 11-1 Los Angeles loss to the Rays. And just before that, he gave up three runs in 5 1/3 innings of an 8-2 Angels loss to Seattle.
Los Angeles is 6-8 with Suarez this season, and that’s probably even a game or two better than it should be, based on his performances.
In his only career start against the Yankees, back in August of last season, Suarez allowed two runs through five frames of a 2-1 Angels defeat.
Montas is 10/23 on quality starts this year but 0/4 for his new team. Last Tuesday, he held the Mets to two runs and six hits through 5 2/3 innings of a 4-2 New York victory. But over his three starts previous to that, he gave up 14 runs and 16 hits through 14 innings.
Oakland played 5-14 with Montas this season, although that certainly wasn’t all his fault. The Yankees are now 2-2 with him.
Over two starts earlier this season against the Angels, while still with the A’s, Montas allowed just two runs and six hits through 7 1/3 innings. Thanks to poor run support, Oakland lost both of those games.
