How are we playing this game with our free baseball betting pick?

MLB Betting Odds

Tuesday’s baseball betting lines opened this game at right around a pick ’em, with an over/under of seven runs. Early betting action then goosed New York into a -120 favorite.

Mets-Cardinals MLB Betting Preview

New York stole the opener of this series Monday night, 5-2. That game was 0-0 into the bottom of the eighth inning when St. Louis scored two runs to take the lead. But the Mets then scored five runs with two outs in the top of the ninth and held on for the victory.

New York won as a -150 favorite on Monday’s dime line and covered against the run line at a price of +105. Also, the Mets’ late rally pushed the game over its total of 6.5 runs, much to the dismayed amazement of anyone who bet the Under.

Over the weekend, New York took two of three games at Arizona, and just before that, they took three of four from San Francisco. In fact, the Mets are 5-0 on series this season.

The Cardinals just took two of three games at Cincinnati over the weekend, and just before that, they took two of three at Miami. So St. Louis is 3-0-1 on series this season.

Last year St. Louis took the season series from the Mets five games to two.

Tuesday’s Pitching Match-Up

Hicks is making his second start of this season to go along with a couple of appearances in relief. Last Thursday, he allowed one run on two hits and two walks through three innings of a 5-0 St. Louis loss to Miami. So on the season, Hicks has allowed that one run and three hits through seven innings, with four walks and eight strikeouts.

This will be Hicks’ first action against the Mets since 2019, which is already a long time ago for him.

Bassitt is 2/3 on quality starts this year. Last Wednesday, he got touched for five runs and eight hits through six innings of a 5-2 New York loss to San Francisco. But in his two starts previous to that, he held Arizona and Washington to one run and five hits through 12 frames. On the season, Bassitt has allowed six runs on 13 hits and four walks through 18 innings, with 20 strikeouts.

The Mets are 2-1 with Bassitt this season.

This will be Bassitt’s first start against St. Louis since 2019, which again is already a long time ago.

Splits With the Sticks

New York is batting .266 against right-handed pitching this season, with a .348 team OBP and a .415 team slugging percentage. The Mets have also scored at least five runs four times over their last five games.

St. Louis is slashing .222/.303/.311 against RH-handed pitching. The Cardinals have also been held to two runs or less five times over their last nine games.

The Bullpens

The New York bullpen owns a 3.45 ERA this season, along with a 1.23 WHIP.
The St. Louis pen owns a 2.67 ERA and a 1.06 WHIP.

MLB Betting Trends

  • The Mets are 8-3 on the road this season and 11-3 against right-handed starters.
  • The Cardinals are 3-2 at home and 7-4 against RH starters.

Totals Report

  • The Under is 8-6 in Mets games this season.
  • The Under is 8-5 in Cardinals games.
  • The Under went 44-32 at Busch Stadium last season.

Mets vs. Cards Prediction 4/26/22

We give Bassitt the edge in the pitching match-up here, and while St. Louis might own an edge in the bullpen comparison, New York owns an edge with the sticks. Plus, the Mets are just hot at the moment, riding some Big Mo following Monday night’s crazy rally. So we’re betting New York here.
