The Milwaukee Brewers beat the Los Angeles Dodgers Friday and Saturday night, and shoot for the sweep of this three-game series Sunday afternoon. Who do we like for our free MLB pick on Sunday’s contest?
MLB Betting Report
Sunday’s MLB betting odds opened Los Angeles and Stripling at around -135 over Milwaukee and Chacin, with an over/under of 8.5 runs. Early betting action then bumped that line up to -145 and the total to 9.
Brewers vs. Dodgers Set-Up
Milwaukee took the opener of this series Friday night 8-5, then won Saturday night 4-1. The Brewers took the lead for good Saturday on a Mike Moustakas solo homer in the top of the second inning and got seven quality innings from starter Zach Davies, on their way to victory as +140 underdogs on the MLB betting line.
So after getting swept three games by the Angels in Anaheim earlier this week, Milwaukee has a chance for a sweep of its own to even its LA trip at 3-3.
Los Angeles, meanwhile, now owns a six-game losing streak, after getting swept four games in St. Louis earlier this week.
Last year the Dodgers took the regular-season series from the Brewers four games to three, then beat Milwaukee in seven games in the National League championship series.
Saturday’s Starting Arms
Stripling (0-1, 3.78) is 1/3 on quality starts this season. Last time out, Tuesday at St. Louis, he gave up four runs and five hits through five innings of a 4-0 Los Angeles defeat. And on the season he’s allowed seven runs 14 hits through 16 2/3 innings. The Dodgers are 1-2 with Stripling this season, with the overs going 2-1.
Stripling missed the Brewers last season. His most recent action against Milwaukee came in 2017, and that was a very different Brewers lineup than the one he’ll face Sunday.
Chacin (2-1, 4.24), by our strict standards, is 0/3 on quality starts this season, but he’s actually pitched a little better than that stat might indicate. Last time out, Monday against the Angels, Chacin gave up three runs and two home runs through 6 1/3 innings of a 5-2 Milwaukee loss. And over his three starts, he’s allowed eight runs and nine hits, four of which left the park, through 17 innings. The Brewers are 2-1 with Chacin this season, with the unders going 2-1.
Over three starts last season against Los Angeles, including two in the NLCS, Chacin allowed 10 earned runs and 11 hits, including four dingers, through 11 2/3 innings. Milwaukee went 1-2 in those games, with the unders going 2-1.
Saturday’s Batting Splits
Milwaukee is batting .242/.331/.424 against right-handed pitching this season.
Los Angeles is batting .290/.377/.549 against RH pitching this season.
The Bullpens
The Brewers bullpen owns a 4.53 ERA this season, with a 1.21 WHIP and a 52/24 strikeouts/walks ratio.
The Dodgers bullpen owns a 5.08 ERA this season, with a 1.34 WHIP and a 62/21 K/BB ratio.
Totals Report
- The unders are 8-6-1 in Brewers games this season.
- The overs are 11-5 in Dodgers games this season.
- The overs are 7-2 in games played at Dodger Stadium this season.
- The unders are 8-7-1 over the last 16 Brewers-Dodgers games, stretching back to the beginning of last season and including last year’s NLCS.
