Monday’s MLB betting odds opened Milwaukee and Chacin at around -110 over Los Angeles and Cahill, with an over/under of 8.5 runs. Early betting action then bumped that total to nine runs.
Milwaukee could also be found getting around +140 giving the run and a half on the MLB run line.
Brewers vs. Angels Set-Up
Milwaukee just took two of three games at home from the Cubs over the weekend, winning Sunday’s series rubber match 4-2. So the Brewers are 3-0 in series this season.
Milwaukee is also 7-1 over its last eight games.
Los Angeles, meanwhile, just took three of four games from rival Texas over the weekend, winning Sunday’s series finale 7-2. So the Angels are 1-2 in series this season.
LA owns a three-game winning streak, after losing five straight.
These teams last met three seasons ago when the Brewers took two of three games from the Angels at Miller Park. But that’s already a long time ago.
Monday’s Starting Arms
New Angel Cahill (0-1, 3.75) is one-for-two on quality starts this season. First, he allowed four runs on six hits through six innings of a 4-0 loss to Oakland. But last Tuesday he held Seattle to one run on three hits through six innings, although the Angels lost that game 2-1.
Last year, pitching for the A’s, Cahill finished 7/20 on quality starts. Oakland finished 12-8 with Cahill previous year, with the overs going 11-7-2.
This will be Cahill’s first start against Milwaukee since 2016 when he was with the Cubs.
Former Angel Chacin (2-0, 4.22) is 0/2 on quality starts this season, but the Brewers are 2-0 with him. First he gave up three runs and three hits through 5 1/3 innings of a 5-4 Milwaukee victory over St. Louis, and last Tuesday he gave up two runs and three hits through 5 1/3 innings of a 4-3 Brewers win over Cincinnati.
Last year Chacin only finished 10/35 on quality starts, but most of that had to do with a short leash. Milwaukee ended 23-12 with him, with the unders going 19-16.
This will be Chacin’s first start against the Angels since 2010 when he was with Colorado.
Monday’s Batting Splits
Milwaukee is hitting .240/.333/.436 against right-handed pitching this season. The Brewers also get to add a DH to the lineup for this series.
Los Angeles is hitting .221/.295/.358 against RH pitching this season.
The Bullpens
The Brewers bullpen, which was so good last season, has allowed 21 runs on 31 hits and 15 walks through 38 2/3 innings of work this season. Also, new closer Josh Hader recorded an eight-out save Sunday, so his availability for Monday is iffy.
