Friday’s Pitching Match-Up
Martinez, who spent the last four years pitching in Japan, is 0/2 on quality starts for his new team this season. Last Saturday, he gave up four runs on seven hits, including three home runs and four walks through five innings of a 5-2 San Diego loss to Atlanta. But five days before that, in his season debut, he held San Francisco to one run through five frames of a 4-2 Padres victory.
On the whole, Martinez has allowed five runs and 17 base-runners (hits + walks) through 10 innings, with five walks and nine strikeouts.
This will be Martinez’s first-ever start against the Dodgers.
Urias is also 0/2 on quality starts this season. Last Saturday, he held Cincinnati scoreless on one hit through five innings of a 5-2 Los Angeles win. But six days before that, he gave up six runs – three earned – and six hits through just two innings of a 9-4 LA loss to Colorado.
So on the hole this season, Urias has allowed three ER and seven hits through seven innings.
Over three starts last year against San Diego, Urias allowed six runs and ten hits through 16 innings. The Dodgers won two of those three games.
