Maeda pitched adequately in his opener allowing three earned runs over 6 2/3 and getting the win against Arizona. He did allow only seven baserunners, but he got taken “yard” three times in the game. Maeda had three starts versus the Rockies in 2018 allowing three or fewer runs in all three.

Tyler Anderson:0-1 (9.00 ERA)
Anderson didn’t start his season on the right foot getting lit up for five runs on nine hits in just five innings pitched taking the loss. The Colorado lefty has had some success against the Dodgers recording three quality starts last season in five outings.

Pitcher versus Batter

Maeda has the better historical numbers versus today’s forecasted line-up holding the batters to .234 batting average and a .292 on-base percentage. For the Rockies, Chris Iannetta .357, and Ian Desmond .333 will have to be dealt with.

Tyler Anderson’s overall historicals against the Dodgers’ line-up are not very impressive, but the statistics are skewered by Justin Turner. Turner has been lights out against the Rockies left-hander hitting for a .464 average in 32 at-bats.

The Dodgers have erupted for 55 runs in seven games and have surpassed four runs in five of those contests. Rockies starter Tyler Anderson didn’t look good on the road in his opener, and he did get roughed up by the Dodgers last time he started at home against them back in September last season. Anderson has a history of starting the season slow, so I’m not expecting a significant rebound effort today.

The host Rockies bats were cold as ice scoring a combined two runs in their last four games and come into this match ranked 25th in batting average with a putrid .197 mark. They’ve certainly didn’t get to Maeda last season, 19 IP, 5 ERs over three starts but his worst outing of was in Colorado where he gave up three runs over 5 1/3 frames allowing nine base runners. Maeda continued to give up the long ball in his first test this campaign a problem that he had at the end of last season and Coors Field is not the place to try and remedy it.
